e-RS update to support RTT reporting

A change to the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS) will take place in October 2026.

The update will help make sure Referral to Treatment (RTT) times are recorded in the same way across the NHS.

The change affects patients who start with an Advice and Guidance request that is later changed to a referral. After the update, the patient's RTT pathway will start from the date the Advice and Guidance request was first made, rather than the date it was changed to a referral.

This will give a more accurate picture of a patient's journey and support consistent RTT reporting.

The change only applies to new requests made after the update goes live. Existing requests will not be changed.

Teams are encouraged to review local processes to make sure they align with RTT policy.
