Digital Diagnostics Discovery work starts across NENC

A new Digital Diagnostics Discovery programme has started across the North East and North Cumbria (NENC).

The programme will look at three digital projects:

• A Global Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA)
• iRefer Clinical Decision Support for Secondary Care
• A Global Endoscopy Management System

The aim is to understand what is needed and create business cases for each project. These business cases will help support future decisions on investment and delivery.

The work will bring together views from all eight acute trusts in the region. It will look at:

• What each trust needs
• How systems work together
• Costs and benefits
• Risks and challenges
• Possible plans for delivery

From September 2026, colleagues from Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, working on behalf of the Integrated Care System (ICS), will speak with staff and other key partners across the region. This will include clinical, digital, technical and operational teams.

The information gathered will help make sure the business cases reflect the needs of organisations across NENC. It will also help shape future digital diagnostic services for patients and staff.
