Working together to improve care

NHS organisations across the North East and North Cumbria are working together to improve care for patients.

This work is led by the NENC Provider Collaborative. The aim is simple. Help people get care sooner. Improve their experience. Make the best use of NHS time and resources.

Better outpatient care

Teams across the region are looking at ways to improve outpatient services.

They are reviewing waiting lists and looking at how appointments are booked. They are also helping services use the same good ways of working.

Some patients can now arrange follow-up care when they need it. This can reduce unnecessary visits to hospital and give patients more choice.

Services are also looking at ways to cut missed appointments. This includes using reminders and checking waiting lists more often.

These changes help make sure appointments are available for the people who need them most.

Better use of theatre time

The Collaborative is also helping hospitals make better use of operating theatres.

The goal is to use theatre time well so more patients can be treated.

Teams are sharing ideas and learning from each other. They are using data to understand what works best and where changes can be made.

The focus is on reducing delays, making better use of available time and cutting the number of cancelled operations.

Hospitals are also looking at ways to improve planning and make sure patients are ready for surgery.
