GIRFT visit provides opportunity to showcase NENC collaboration

Teams from across North East and North Cumbria are preparing to welcome colleagues from the national Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme this August, providing an opportunity to showcase the strength of partnership working across the region.

The visit will bring together clinical and operational leaders from across the system to discuss progress in two areas – planned care and urgent and emergency care.

For the NENC Provider Collaborative, the visit is a chance to demonstrate how organisations are working together to tackle shared challenges, improve services and deliver better outcomes for local communities.

Over recent years, partners across North East and North Cumbria have developed a strong track record of collaboration. From reducing waiting times and improving access to diagnostics, to strengthening patient flow and supporting people to receive care closer to home, many improvements have been achieved through joint working across organisational boundaries.

The GIRFT team will be keen to understand how these partnerships are helping to transform services. Discussions are expected to explore how providers are sharing expertise, adopting new approaches and delivering improvements at scale across the region.

The visit also offers an opportunity to reflect on the progress already made. Collaborative programmes have helped reduce unwarranted variation, support service redesign and create greater consistency for patients, regardless of where they access care.

Importantly, the focus is not on individual organisations. Instead, the visit will look at how the whole system works together to meet growing demand and deliver sustainable improvements for patients.

The NENC Provider Collaborative has a key role to play in this work, bringing providers and system partners together to share learning, develop common solutions and accelerate improvement across multiple specialties and services.

External visits such as GIRFT provide valuable opportunities to gain fresh perspectives, learn from national best practice and identify new opportunities for improvement. They also help highlight the innovation, dedication and teamwork taking place every day across North East and North Cumbria.

As preparations continue, colleagues are encouraged to share examples of successful partnership working and service improvement. Every project, pathway redesign and innovation contributes to the wider story of how organisations across the region are working together to provide high-quality, accessible care for the population we serve.

The August visit will be an opportunity not only to showcase progress, but also to strengthen relationships, share learning and support our collective ambition of delivering the very best care for the people of North East and North Cumbria.
