Big Step Forward for New NHS Medicines Centre in Seaton DelavalWe’re excited to share some great progress on the new NHS Medicines Manufacturing Centre (MMC) being built in Seaton Delaval. Recently, large parts of the building — including air handling units and other key equipment — were delivered and installed. These were made offsite at Merit’s factory in Cramlington and lifted into place using a huge crane. This is a big moment in the project and shows how fast things are moving.
Once it’s finished, the MMC will make important medicines like chemotherapy and injectable treatments for hospitals across the North East and North Cumbria. It will be able to produce up to one million doses a year and will create around 150 new jobs in the region.

This project is a partnership between Merit, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and the NENC Provider Collaborative. It’s all about improving healthcare in our region and making sure we can produce vital medicines locally.
